Tee To Green Grounds Management Company would like to share the following guidelines to help guarantee the success of your newly seeded lawn. Since many factors are involved, your initial investment is critical and may save you money in the future.

Watering
  • All grass seeds need moisture and a certain ground temperature to germinate.
  • Begin watering immediately after the seed is sowed.
  • The simple guideline is to keep the ground moist but not soggy!
  • Keep the top inch of the soil moist by watering frequently for short periods of time. Depending on the conditions, you may need to water several times each day.
  • It will save you time and headaches to buy quality sprinklers.
  • It is better to have multiple hoses and sprinklers to avoid walking across the lawn.
  • Do not over-water. Puddling or run-off on slopes will cause seed movement.
  • Do not assume natural precipitation is enough, even in the spring!
  • After the seed has fully germinated (usually between 3 to 4 weeks), begin less frequent but heavier watering.
  • The new goal is to make the soil moist further down so that the roots grow deeper making them stronger and more resistant to drought and disease.
  • Established lawns should receive about 1" of water per week.

Mowing
  • Do not mow your new lawn until it reaches around 3" in height.
  • It is not necessary to collect your clippings.
  • Schedule your mowing so that no more than 1/3 of the leaf is cut.
  • Keep your mower blades sharp!

Fertilizing
  • During the grow-in period of your new lawn avoid using chemicals or fertilizer.
  • After mowing 3 or 4 times you may lightly fertilize your lawn.
  • If weeds are growing, spot treat with a herbicide after the fourth mowing.
  • After your lawn is established, a regular treatment program can be started.
